Far too many businesses struggle, or even fail, due to preventable accounting-related reasons. I am committed doing something about this! Most people's eyes glaze over when the topics of accounting or bookkeeping are brought up. I don't blame you! Much of the information out there leaves you more confused than when you started. Since I came into this field from a non-accounting background I'VE BEEN IN YOUR SHOES. I know how frustrating it is to find information that leaves you more confused than when you started. Here's a little about me, so you'll know why I'm qualified to talk about this topic: For more than 20 years I've been the "go-to" person for setting up and improving internal accounting related procedures in every position I've held - from purchasing/contract management, to accounting manager, to sales and marketing of a transaction management software. I've worked in organizations of 5 people, 5000 people, and everything in between. For example, I've worked in a 4-person privately-owned company, a large public organization, and a successful venture-backed company. Entrepreneurs (first-time entrepreneurs, in particular), have sought me out in recent years because I'm good at explaining things in easy-to-understand language. I've helped with everything from "how can I get my invoices paid by a huge corporate customer on time?" to "when I have staff I plan to keep a fully stocked kitchen for them, so why shouldn't I go ahead and buy my personal groceries from the business account from day one?" Also, when I'm not the right person to answer what's asked I am the FIRST to admit it, and I'm great at giving guidance about who (and what) to ask, instead. IMPORTANT NOTE: This blog is intended to help BUSINESS OWNERS who intend to GROW their businesses over the next few years. If you're just getting started you may currently be the only person in your business and that's fine. You're still a "business" for the purposes of this blog, if you meet the following TWO CRITERIA: 1. You plan to ultimately hire at least at least 10 to 50 employees, AND 2. You plan to hire your first employee(s) within the next 12 months. The blog will be quite useful for others too, but some of the practices mentioned won't apply to solo practitioners. Enjoy!
