Cassia Roth is Assistant Professor of History at the University of Georgia. She received her Ph.D. in Latin American History with a Concentration in Gender Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles. Her book manuscript, entitled “A Miscarriage of Justice: Reproduction, Medicine, and the Law in Early Twentieth-Century Rio de Janeiro,” argues that legal and medical efforts to build a “new” Brazil were contingent upon the impoverished population’s health, particularly female reproduction. Cassia’s research has been supported by the European Union, Woodrow Wilson Foundation, the National Science Foundation, Fulbright, and the Coordinating Council for Women in History.
