With decades of dedication in uniform and continued involvement in national defense initiatives, he has remained focused on mission success and leadership excellence. Throughout his professional journey, he has earned the respect and trust of those who have served and worked with him. He began his military career in 1995 by enlisting in the U.S. Army as an infantryman and later earned a commission through the Virginia Military Institute. With experience as both an enlisted soldier and officer, he developed a comprehensive understanding of military operations. He completed airborne and Ranger training and served in six combat deployments across Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Persian Gulf. While serving in the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions, he maintained over 10 years of jump status and completed 82 jumps, earning Master Parachutist Wings. He led ground forces during Operation Iraqi Freedom and multiple deployments to Afghanistan, taking on responsibilities that included coordinating unit movements, capturing enemy combatants, and guiding teams through extended missions under high-pressure conditions. In the 82nd Airborne Division, he served as a Battalion Operations Officer and Executive Officer, overseeing units of 830 and 770 personnel. His leadership in logistics, training, intelligence, and aviation support was recognized with multiple Bronze Stars for excellence in combat operations. He later transitioned into strategic roles at the Pentagon, serving on the staffs of the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Staff, and the Army Staff. As Deputy Director and Chief of the Assessments Branch, he led capability planning across service branches. As Director of Joint Integration, he supported close combat readiness initiatives and helped secure critical funding for training, research, and equipment. After retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel, he moved into civilian roles in defense-related business development and community leadership. Above all, he values his family, considering his marriage and daughter his most significant accomplishments. Eric Schnabel continues to live by the principles that have shaped his life of service.
